Betatron Leads Indonesian Supply Chain Startup Baskit’s Seed Round

Betatron is proud to announce its investment into Baskit, a Singapore-based startup led by Yann Schuermans. The company helps wholesalers and distributors across Indonesia manage their inventory, increase margins, and grow their businesses with a suite of software and services.

Baskit founder Yann Schuermans is taking a different approach to modernise Indonesia’s massive FMCG supply chain.

Wholesalers and distributors are entrenched middlemen in markets around the world. As intermediaries between brands and mom and pop shops, they play a vital role in FMCG supply chains. To many in the startup community, these traditional wholesalers (who are often low tech, family-owned, and handling millions in turnover) seem like a juicy opportunity for digital disruption.

However, what we at Betatron see time and time again is that these traditional players are difficult to dislodge. Their relationships are strong and often personal, they offer friendly terms to their customers, and they know their markets well.

Acknowledging this reality, Baskit works with, rather than against, traditional players.

The approach is working. Baskit has quickly onboarded over 50 wholesalers across West Java. They’ll use funds raised in this round to expand into more cities across Indonesia.

Beyond their contrarian-but-effective approach to the market, the Betatron team led the investment because of our confidence in its founder, Yann Schuermans. Yann’s previous work in AB Inbev gave him real insight into how Indonesia’s FMCG supply chain logistics work across Indonesia. Beyond that, we find traits in him that we look for in all our founders: he’s a world-class communicator, has a clear vision, and wants to solve real problems with a scalable business model.
