Last night, we held a launch event to officially announce the seven startups Betatron has invested in for cohort 2.
Nio Liyanage kicked off the event with a brief introduction to Betatron's new structure, which includes the addition of nine new investors.
Next, the seven startups introduced themselves to the audience with the elevator pitches they've been working on over the last week.
Finally, we concluded with a panel discussion on the startup fundraising ecosystem in Hong Kong.
Joining me on the panel were different members of the Betatron network, including our director (Nio Liyanage), founding partners (Rafal Czerniawski from IC Studio & Roland Yau from CoCoon Ignite Ventures), a startup from cohort 1 (Matthew Ng from Pakpobox), and a supporting partner (Karena Belin from WHub).

Who are the startups in cohort 2?
Each startup receives US$30,000 investment and will be guided through an intensive four-month period to refine their business model and fast-track them to grow and scale.
It promises to be an exciting four months ahead with this group of passionate and hungry founders.

CAPSL Entertainment is building genre-defining competitive Virtual Reality games. Formed by ex-Zynga & Konami executives, CAPSL believes that Virtual Reality is primed to be the next big esports gaming platform. At over $1 billion USD esports is the fastest growing segment in the games industry. The team at CAPSL are drawing on their unique blend of AAA sports franchise and social games experience to appeal to over ½ billion esports gaming fans. CAPSL Entertainment’s first VR game is targeting beta launch end of 2017.
In HK and across Asia, people living in urban centres all face the same problems - lack of space, high rents, heat and humidity - which makes caring for and storing clothes difficult. PAKT solves the problems with pristine storage conditions and a digital platform so you can browse your clothes anytime, anywhere and always know what you have in storage. PAKT also helps property developers innovate - smaller units should become smart homes and that means a smart wardrobe.

KidHop's vision is to be a one-stop-shop for all types of kids activities. Parents want to spend meaningful time with their children, but children's activities are hard to find and even harder to book. The education industry is a massive, dated market that still relies heavily on limited word-of-mouth recommendations and going to centers in-person registration and payment. We want to revolutionize the education activities industry by the bringing the experience online, where parents can discover and book relevant and new classes with just a few clicks.
Trip Guru is an online platform which allows users to discover and book group activities, and connect with other travellers in a social and more affordable way. Trip Guru is present in 16 destinations in South East Asia and has over 700 activities on the platform.
