Matthias joined the Betatron team as Managing Director after previously being involved as an investor and mentor for Betatron's cohort 2&3 companies.
Prior to that, Matthias was Managing Director and Head of Debt-Syndicate Asia-Pacific at HSBC where he managed several hundred billion US$ of transactions. Before moving to Hong Kong in 2009, Matthias held various positions at HSBC's capital markets business in London. Matthias holds a Master of Mathematical Finance degree from the University of Toronto as well as an MBA.
Matthias is passionate about helping start-ups build and scale their businesses. He is also active as investor and has launched a boutique investment firm focused on early-stage investing.
Outside of work, Matthias is a keen ultra-distance runner having finished many 100km+ races including a Top 5% finish of the famous Ultra-trail du Mont Blanc, a 170km trail race in the Alps that takes runners across France, Italy and Switzerland which he finished in 32 hours of running. He believes that passion, mental strength and a healthy dose of humbleness are key ingredients to success - in sports as much as for entrepreneurs.
